What did you listen to today? - PART 1

For me it was:

Saved (only played Saving Grace 3 times)
Live At Carnegie Hall promo

Both absolutely wonderful.

Saved has such passion, and that amazing 1980 voice on songs like Covenant Woman and Saving Grace - I think most of the outside world hate that voice and that vocal style, but we all love it - why?

Carnegie - listened again recently? Didn 't get to the end yet, but that great Hollis Brown and Boots OSL, magic.

'Good enough for now' disc 1 and the beginning of disc 2
Walls of Concert Halls disc 1 - Nov 61, Hootenanny Sept 62 and Carnegie Hall 63 (part of).

Brilliant - especially 'A Long Time A-Growin', which he introduces as copied from Liam Clancy, and 'Lay Down Your Weary Tune'. And hearing the audience all laugh at 'John Birch' - must have been one of the earliest performances of the song in 62, i guess. Interesting too to hear Pretty Peggy-O from '61 and see how he developed the song in the 90s.

Mine got too rough to listen to - it got a lot of play in the late sixites, so I have to use the CDs now; I never use the overdubbed version though - he really messed it up.

That's the overdubbed version - drums and bass (JCB + Roy Estrada) overdubbed by Chaz Wackerman and Scott Thunes. Also lots of other tweaking. The 'pure' version was released in 1995, and it's much better. He did the same with Ruben and the Jets, but there isn't a CD version of the orginal, you have to find the vinyl.

Began the day driving over the mountains with Chicken Shack, Still Live After All These Years, which was pleasant. Followed by Miles Davis On The Corner.

Then on the way back that thing happened in my mind, you know the one, where Bringing It All Back Home suddenly all makes sense and you've just gotta sing along to Subterranean Homesick Blues, because somewhere in your tired mind you've discovered the perfect singing voice for it, and you know its the only thing that'll keep you awake and not in a burning wreck at the bottom of a ravine someplace.

Not that I can keep up, with all the words, but it's damn good fun to try! Look out Kid, its..er..da daa darr naaa na na na na na a naaa nnaa nAAAA 'cos the vandals took the handles woohoo!.

It would be nice to have time to listen to anything at the moment - yes, you can tell I'm feeling sorry for myself smiling smiley - the best I can offer is Dylan's Legends dvd which I had on while I ate dinner last night.

Oh, and I did watch some of the tracks from the Stones in Rio the other lunchtime. Not at all convinced by the new songs I watched, but the classics were quite good.

Watched After The Crash DVD the other day. Yesterday it was New Morning and Planet Waves.

Today I'm still going through the 4 disks of Good Enough For Now - excellent stuff.
