Elvis Costello did his solo acoustic set between
Amos Lee's set and Bob's set. (7 or 8 songs)
This was a surprise since Elvis was not scheduled
to appear until September 22nd in Duluth, Georgia.

You wake up to find that another work of art has been displayed. You long for it, think about it, talk about it, and smile....thank you Bob Dylan for this meeting in the morning and all the ones before this and many more to come. :mmd:

You might as well not get too excited about "Meet Me in the Morning".

Dylan pretty much stood there and watched Jack White play and sing the song, chiming in himself with some inaudible guitar. Only in the last verse, a repeat of the first verse, did Bob draw into the mike and sing the last three lines "with" Jack White. Otherwise, this performance was Jack White and Bob Dylan's Band.

It was still cool, it was a very good performance, but just wanted to mention, it's about 95% Jack and about 5% Bob.

All the Best,

Joe

Thanks for the detail, Joe12_35. Where you there? Was Bob's voice as gravelly as Austin?

I for one, am still in a lather over it, mainly because it is so rare for Bob to deviate from routine.

I was there. I have downloaded, but haven't heard Austin, so I can't compare.

Dylan was pretty wolfish. That said, there were several very nice performances--"Big Girl Now", "Nettie Moore", and "The Levee's Gonna Break" really stood out to me outside of "Meet Me in the Morning".

I do REALLY wish he would learn to sing "Spirit on the Water" without
growl/screaming the last word of lines.

I told my wife after the show that at least we know the band knows "Meet Me in the Morning" now and maybe they can lobby Bob to play it again sometime.

All the Best,

Joe

From the ACL Festival, I've heard Tangled up in Blue, Things Have Changed, and I Shall Be Released. Vocally, they were uniformly rough, particularly I Shall Be Released at the end of the show. The instrumental parts of some songs seemed a bit more stylized, maybe to make up for the vocals, or maybe the recordings were just so much better than usual, so you can hear more detail.

(drink) Bob's Austin performance is brilliant ... rockin', raspy, gusty and full of 'come and get it, folk' ... It Ain't Me, Babe knocks what he did for this song Down Under into a tin hat. Now, who's got the Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater show ... it's supposed to be even better than Austin and then, we're waiting to see the Nashville Grand Ol' Bob turn up, too. Tell me, has Christmas arrived early this year?

Go with the flow ... enjoy the moment. Cheers!

The review of the show on boblinks is (maybe a bit too much) enthusiastic. The setlist looks pretty good, outside meet me in the morning. I missed bob last year, so I hope the tour is getting better, I'm waiting for a good show to attend.

Nice quote here from a Boblinks review (credit: Charlespoet):

When in the darkness you saw Bob come out from behind the keyboard and strap back on his guitar you knew something big was about to happen and when the lights went back up and Jack White swaggered out to the mic like the coolest singing cowboy alive (next to Bob of course) and started screaming, "Meet me in the morning, 56th and Wabasha", I'm still in shock - I mean Bob and Jack are like brothers cut from the same piece of vintage fabric - something that would keep you ultimately warm if you only had the nerve to take it off the shelf and wrap it around your skeletal frame. The music was a movie and vice versa and was so real it became unreal and then it went into some crazed hyperbolic state of 'kicks for kicks sake' that left everyone in the audience and those up on the stage dancing around like cats on a supremely hot tin roof - Tennessee Williams would have been one proud papa! I loved how while Jack went nuts singing and seducing his guitar Bob stood back and let Jack do his thing which you could tell Bob was enjoying just as much as we were and then toward the end when Jack adjusted the mic and nodded to Bob and the surprised look on Bob's face like 'oh you want me to sing' and what did Bob do well he stepped into the mic and screamed right alongside Jack!!! And then Bob's huge grin after the song was over said it all right there and then.

It's a feature. Some people pay extra. Of course, others squeal like little girls.
